AFTER THE GOLD RUSH features commentary on what is happening in our society and culture. Life in its complexities and simplicity. The phrase “After the Gold Rush” refers to what happens when miners no longer believe there is enough value left to continue working a claim. This was true in the Old West, when boom turned to bust and free-wheeling, bustling communities became ghost towns.
I am David Jones, resident author and blogmeister. I believe that American society is in danger because of a post-modern teaching that insists there isn’t “gold in them there hills,” the hills being the opportunity for adventure, profit, personal satisfaction, happiness. Western civilization. You name it. Thinking like this changes the nature of people and alters the trajectory of the future.
I disagree with this belief system. I want future generations to enjoy liberty, to seek the stars and find the as-yet-unearthed nuggets of opportunity that will change people’s outlook on life. I want future generations to be generous of their own free will. I want them to see God’s abundant blessings, and to seek non-coercive solutions to the problems that we face.
A bit about me. I’ve worked in several fields including newspapers, financial services, music (both recording and live events), teaching, home schooling, and others. I am a published author with several new novels on the verge of publication.
I’m very Catholic, lean libertarian, and believe that since God gave each individual free will, we shouldn’t try to deprive others of it. Even if they wreck or destroy their lives. That does not mean we can’t offer advice and help. There is a thin line between genuine concern and empathy for people, and insufferable interference. That line is the battleground where the forces of freedom and slavery collide.
It begins with the intellect and migrates to the heart. Thanks for being here.
